The best thing about throwing out your old makeup is that you’re taking care of yourself. Why? Some of the most common skin ailments are caused by tiny bacteria that can get trapped in the makeup we use each day. To avoid irritations, eye infections, breakouts and even styes it is important to replace your products regularly. It’s not just mascara and eyeliner that can cause skin irritation. For example, if you use a foundation or concealer that has expired, it could lead to redness, burning sensations, and bumps on your skin.
If you use eyeliner or mascara that’s past the expiration date for too long for instance – even if they’re still good quality – you’ll risk experiencing eye injuries like itching or swelling along with possible infections in the lash line area.
Cosmetics do have expiration dates, but it’s not the same as food. Unlike your food, the date it should be used by for makeup relies on when you first start using them – not when you purchase it. There should be a symbol on your makeup of a jar and a letter or number inside that looks something like “12M”, meaning that the product’s shelf life once opened is 12 months.
But do you have any idea when to get rid of your mascara or foundation? The tell-tale signs are separation, changes in the texture, and the presence of foul smells.
So, what’s the expiration date on your makeup? That thought might fill you with fear, but don’t worry! We’re here to help. We’re all about beauty and fashion here at HD Mirrors and that starts with looking amazing day in and day out. Whether it’s mascara or blush- we have your back. When does every type of cosmetic expire? Keep reading for answers.
